Joe's commitment to community service has always been a focal point of his life. In Junior High School, Joe's teachers noted his friendly demeanor and willingness to help others. This has carried over well into his professional career as Joe knows the importance of giving back every day.

Throughout his professional career, Joe has been very active with each community he is playing in. "I understand that there is more to life than baseball and that through my ability to play a sport on an elite level - I can have a positive impact on the lives of others." Joe' has visited schools, hospitals, and volunteers on numerous projects.

In 2010, Joe returned home to Vallejo to assist with the refurbishment of the North Vallejo Little League Baseball fields. He was on hand to help fellow Vallejo native CC Sabathia unveil the renovated Thurmon Field. As a keynote speaker at the event, he shared his fond memories playing on this same field.

Joe was also the focal point of the "North Vallejo All-Stars Baseball Clinic" joining forces with several other baseball players to bring a top-flight baseball event to over 200 youth.
